~June’s Pick~

Happy summer! For all my fellow Canadians, happy belated Canada Day:)

For my June pick, I believe this could be my favourite book that I’ve read all year… The British Booksellers by Kristy Cambron.

The British Booksellers follows two timelines, both taking place in and near Coventry, England. In 1914, Charlotte, a young woman of high class, and Amos, a lowly farmer, are madly in love, despite all odds stacked against them.

In 1940, Charlotte and Amos own aggressively competitive bookshops across the street from one another and never speak.

Charlotte's daughter, Eden, is determined to keep the estate inherited from her late Father afloat and will do anything to keep it up and running. So when a mysterious lawyer from America visits speaking of a vague lawsuit, she's determined to figure out exactly what his intentions are and how they could save or destroy everything she holds dear.

But something else is brewing below the surface. The Blitz is happening in full force with the German Luftwaffe giving everything to bomb the fight out of England. Suddenly all the mistakes of the past and conflicts of the present dim in comparison as everyone must band together to survive the Blitz. As Amos and Charlotte team together to survive yet another war, could this be their chance to heal the wounds of their heartbreaking history and redeem their lost love?

This book.

This book was incredible. The tension between Amos and Charlotte was so perfectly drawn out. I think the thing that caught me right away was that in 1914, Amos and Charlotte were madly in love. And in 1940, Amos and Charlotte own warring bookshops and refuse to speak. I just had to read the book to find out what went down between them and if they would ever reconcile.

The chemistry was spot on. The history was rich and fascinating. The storytelling was beautiful. This book was just altogether amazing.

If The British Booksellers interests you, then go pick up the book and read it, you won’t regret it. It’s a perfect blend of romance, suspense and intriguing history about the Coventry Blitz, something many people haven’t heard of that much, including me.

My favourite pick for June, and quite possibly my favourite pick of the year, The British Booksellers is a must read :)
