Happy December everyone! It's officially that time of year, the tree is decorated, the lights are up, and festive music is playing everywhere. So, if it's not too early... Merry Christmas!!

Halfway through November, I went to my local library and picked out a stack of Christmas themed books. I have a goal this year to read a few Christmas books before the holidays to get myself into the festive spirit!

And so, for November's pick, I have chosen An Irish Christmas by Melody Carlson. As the first Christmas book of the season, I admittedly had low expectations, but was blown away by this wonderful story!

Set in the 1960s, it follows a mother and son during their trip to Ireland during Christmas time.

After the loss of her husband, Colleen feels as though life has been turned upside down. And it certainly doesn't doesn't help when her son, Jamie, returns from college and they can't seem to find any common ground. After finding out Jamie plans to join to Air Force, Colleen decides it's time they take a trip to Ireland. Perhaps a holiday vacation is all they need to put their differences aside and heal their failing relationship.

But both harbour heavy and life-changing secrets, ones that have the power to destroy them forever. When the truth finally comes to light, will they be able to push past the hurt and betrayal these secrets will no doubt cause?

This book was so incredibly good! A bittersweet tale, not only does the story describe the dreary and cozy aesthetic of Christmas in Ireland, it is also very powerful in it's message about family relationships and forgiveness. It was wonderfully engaging, emotional, and inspiring. If you're looking for a Christmas read full of high stakes, and emotional reconciliation, I would highly recommend this book!

Have a Merry Christmas everyone!
