One month into 2024 and I've already read some incredible books! This month's pick was a no-brainer, a book I've been waiting to purchase.
As a huge fan of Amanda Dykes, I immediately knew I would love her newest book, All the Lost Places and I'm happy to say I was certainly not disappointed!
The story follows two young men, Sebastien (1807) and Daniel (1904).
Sebastien Trovato was just a baby when he was discovered by a rugged fisherman floating through the Venice canal. Raised by a group of artisans, in the heart of Venice, his childhood was like no other, but also raised questions about his origins. Questions not even those closest to him can answer. When a mysterious woman washes up on his shore, looming questions and mysterious answers emerge.
Daniel Goodman is wrestling with the shame and consequence of his criminal past when he gets the opportunity to travel to Venice to find a valuable book of high rarity and an unfinished ending. With the help of an energetic bookshop owner, he travels through the heart of Venice, looking for answers to the mysterious unfinished book written by none other than Sebastien Trovato.
I will admit, I had a hard time gathering my thoughts together enough to write a review for this book. Even days after reading, my mind still lingered on all that I read, every beautiful scene, every heartbreaking part. This book was, in the simplest of terms, absolutely beautiful. I've always admired Amanda Dykes' poetic style of writing, and this book was no exception to the stunningly lyrical style she masters. The characters were heartbreakingly complex, I couldn't help but fall in love with them! The setting of Venice was so incredible to travel through.
Though the two characters were nearly a century apart, their stories wove together in shocking yet satisfying ways, gearing up for a wonderful ending, and always leaving me wanting more.
My rating was 9/10, and I would highly recommend!
